About Dr. Gilles Lecours, the citizen
Born and raised in the vibrant town of Hearst, in Northern Ontario, doctor Lecours learned early to value life, family, health and community. As an athletic young man, fully fluent in French and English with a few basic notions in Cree, Gilles Lecours, after obtaining his diploma at Canadore College in North Bay, worked as a helicopter pilot in British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario.
Although he thoroughly enjoyed the excitement and experience of new ventures, this avid hunter and fisherman found nomadic life rather difficult: that’s when he opted for an important career change which would allow a different commitment and close community involvement.
A dentist he became. Sometimes a volunteer for the Search and Rescue Group, sometimes a health and fitness devotee at the gym, sometimes an observer at games, sometimes a participant in meetings, sometimes an amateur art patron, sometimes a playful son at the family cottage, this active father of two girls and two boys has now fully integrated the roles of parent, friend, family member, community participant and professional.
